About the Author
The "South Jersey Foodie" is Nicole Pellegrini, sometimes known as sockii. She enjoys life as a writer, artist, webmaster, crafter and avid food-lover living in some of the last vestiges of active farmland in Gloucester County, New Jersey. She shares her home with her partner David, a podiatrist in Woodbury NJ and their six cats: Peanut, Norman, Sammo, Mischief, George and Benny.I believe in enjoying life - and that includes enjoying as many different kinds and styles of food as possible. I am an omnivore with a personal passion for small, sustainable, ethical farming and natural foods. I have little patience for the "Food Police" or those who advocate that one dietary plan is the only "right" one for everyone. Find your personal balance and conscience; make food a joy in your life - that's my motto.

Venison Stew with Red Wine
I happen to love venison – that’s deer meat, in case you weren’t sure! I am fortunate to have access to it every deer hunting season thanks to our family’s farm manager, who is an avid hunter, and also thanks to our butcher who saves me cuts of meat which his other hunting clients don’t want. Venison is a wonderfully lean red meat which can be used in many different ways you’d normally use beef – for instance, in a hearty winter stew.
Cooking catch-up: venison, pork and potatoes (oh my!)
I’m still playing catch-up with this blog after a busy month in February, writing to some challenges on other sites. But a fair amount of that content was coming up with some new recipes, so let me share them here (along with a few cookbook experiments that came out really well in recent weeks…)
