Venice 2012 Day 11: Aciugheta and Tavernetta San Maurizio

Sunday, October 28. Again we were awoken by the warning siren for acqua alta – I believe it was a three-tone alarm that morning, no less. Knowing it would be ugly outside, we spent a leisurely morning in our apartment before venturing outside. We also had to spend some time seriously looking up the news about approaching Hurricane Sandy at home; our flight back to the States was scheduled for the following day. It was seeming increasingly less likely we’d actually be flying anywhere anytime soon and I’d already received an alert from US Air that I could reschedule my flight without penalty. But we decided to wait until that evening to make our plans and decision for sure.

Venice 2012 Day 9: Osteria Al Ponte del Diavolo (Torcello) and Osteria Doge Morosini

Friday, October 26. For our first week in Venice we had been blessed with unusually warm, dry and sunny weather – but that was about to change. Colder weather and rain was on the way, we knew, not just in Venice but back in the States as well. We were starting to hear news about a so-called “Frankenstorm” that could be heading toward our home in New Jersey.

Venice 2012 Day 8: Osteria Al Ponte “La Patatina” and Caffe Vergnano Venezia Rialto

After such a busy day the day before off exploring Vicenza, we took it a little easier and decided that morning to return to the Scuola Grande di San Rocco. There is just so much to see and take in while viewing Tintoretto’s amazing canvases there that it’s impossible to appreciate them all in one visit. Setting the mood that morning, there was a wonderful singer in the campo outside performing opera music and popular Italian songs. His voice echoed up through the Scuola and afterward we had to buy his cds for sale to remember the moment.
