Receipe review: Pasta with Jam Sauce by West Collins

This past week I was approached by members of the “Misha Vengers” GISHWHES team, and asked if I would review a recipe for “Pasta with Jam Sauce”. If you are not familiar with GISHWHES, it is an annual international scavenger hunt organized by actor Misha Collins (of Supernatural fame). The event annually raises tens of thousands of dollars for charity and promotes many acts of kindness—as well as pure insanity.

Last hurrah for my garden’s tomatoes and beans

The days are getting shorter and the nights colder, but my garden still keeps chugging along with a final flurry of tomatoes and beans. Keeping up with them all has been the real challenge right now, and coming up with different and exciting ways to use them beyond endless tomato salads and pasta sauces.

The quest for the perfect (Jewish) artichoke

Whenever I see artichokes at the market, I immediately think of Italy. I have never had better artichoke dishes than while in Rome and Venice, particularly while in the historical Jewish ghetto districts of both cities where artichokes, in season, are treated and prepared in the most delicious ways imaginable.

What’s been cooking…the summer edition

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve checked in, mostly as July was a horribly busy month with some serious ups and downs. One of the downs was me being out of commission with a bad summer bug for several weeks. I couldn’t even taste anything at all for most of a week – what a horrible waste in the middle of the New Jersey fruit and vegetable season!
