I’ve been utilizing Eat Your Books a bit more these days as they’ve got an increasing number of cookbooks indexed, compared to when I first signed up with the site 2+ years ago. I find myself especially cooking a lot more recipes from my pile of Food & Wine magazines (and yearly collections) as otherwise it’s nearly impossible to browse through them all and find the right recipe at the right time.

So once again I am continuing my quest to find the perfect way to cook pork shoulder steaks. And I think I’ve found my favorite one to date: braising them in a delicious mixture of bourbon and red wine, then finishing off with some sweet local peach preserves.
I’ve been having some fun in the kitchen the past few weeks, working on a couple new recipes. Sometimes creative cooking is a challenge in the winter – I miss all those wonderful fresh Jersey fruits and vegetables – but there is still a lot that can be enjoyed combining year-round veggies, pantry staples and some good quality fresh meats.
