Masseria Dei Vini: Exceptional Authentic Italian in New York City

Let’s get straight to the point: Masseria Dei Vini is serving some of the finest Italian food I’ve enjoyed in any restaurant outside of Italy. Certainly it’s some of the finest I’ve had in New York City in recent years, and that’s saying a lot considering how many Italian restaurants there are throughout the city. But the food at Masseria Dei Vini is so exceptional, sweetie and I went not just once but twice during our recent four-day vacation trip. We couldn’t stay away, there were too many things on the menu we wanted to try, and we simply couldn’t imagine having a better meal elsewhere.

Sel et Poivre: French bistro fare on the Upper East Side

Our first night in New York City on this recent trip was spent on the Upper East Side. We were there for the annual meeting of an Italian Renaissance studies society which my sweetie supports, and the event ended with wine and hors d’oeuvres but not a full meal. We have enjoyed several restaurants in the area in past years after this meeting: Bella Blu, Barbaresco, Caravaggio…but we always like to try something different when in town. Cafe Storico at the New York Historical Society

This past week I spent four wonderful days in New York City, checking out various art exhibits, performances, and of course sampling the wonderful food in this amazing dining destination. One of the highlights of the trip was definitely a visit to the New York Historical Society to see the final part of their incredible, three year exhibit of John James Audubon‘s original watercolor paintings for the Birds of America, “Audubon’s Aviary”. I’ve been fortunate enough to see all three parts of the exhibit now, and also fortunate each visit to enjoy a wonderful lunch at the Historical Society’s terrific restaurant, Cafe Storico.

Barbaresco Restaurant (Upper East Side, New York City)

Finding an excellent  yet reasonably-priced meal on New York’s Upper East Side can be a bit of a challenge. It’s not exactly NYC’s trendiest dining destination, and a lot of times it seems that the high prices to be found in restaurants there do not reflect the quality of the food served. With that in mind, coming across Barbaresco Restaurant on a recent evening in the area was a truly wonderful delight.

Italian Times Three in NYC: Caravaggio, Bottega del Vino, and Gallo Nero

Recently I enjoyed a three-day stay in New York City for a conference and then a little relaxation and “playing tourist”. It was a nice getaway for the sweetie and I, and as it happened we ended up dining Italian three times, at three quite different restaurants around the city. Each meal was enjoyable with its own unique pluses – and a few minuses here and there.
