Costanera Cocina Peruana in Montclair, New Jersey

Over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the sweetie and I took a day trip up to Montclair, New Jersey to visit the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens. The Gardens have been on my “must see” list for several years and we were fortunate to have the time off to catch them during peak bloom time this year.  It was well worth the trip!

El Tule Mexican and Peruvian Restaurant in Lambertville, New Jersey

Yesterday the sweetie and I decided to spend the afternoon and evening in Lambertville, a charming town full of delightful art galleries, craft shops and antique stores. We were dodging in and out of the rain all of the day, but I came home with a nice stash of vintage cookbooks—and a very full belly after a wonderful dinner at El Tule Mexican and Peruvian Restaurant.

Lugo Cucina E Vino at the Revel in Atlantic City

Last night the sweetie and I were in Atlantic City to catch Depeche Mode at Revel’s Ovation Hall (excellent concert, btw, but I’ll be reviewing it elsewhere!). We took “the backroads” to avoid the Labor Day shore traffic, and to enjoy a leisurely dinner first. The only Revel restaurant I’d been able to get us reservations at for the evening was Lugo Cucina E Vino, which I knew very little about. Overall I thought it was a very nice meal with some surprisingly good food! I would be happy to go back there again, especially before a show at Ovation Hall.  Last time we were at the Revel we tried The Mussel Bar, which we both also enjoyed quite a bit. So that’s two for two at Revel for us.

Oh Outback Steakhouse, what has become of you?

Okay, okay, I know. Outback Steakhouse is a “casual dining” chain and I really shouldn’t expect much from them based on that. I’m not going in to one of their locations expecting foodie-quality dining and a high-end restaurant experience.

Cherry Hill Mall Restauant Week Preview at The Capital Grille

“Restaurant Week” promotions are becoming increasingly popular throughout the Philadelphia and surrounding regions as a way to draw dining customers in to sample different restaurants at discounted prices. I’ve written in the past about my mixed feelings for Philadelphia’s Restaurant Week, so I haven’t made it a point in the past to try the South Jersey Hot Chefs or Collingswood versions. But yesterday I had the chance to sample some of the menu items for Cherry Hill Mall’s first-ever Restaurant Week at one of their participating restaurants: The Capital Grille. All in all it was a lovely experience and I enjoyed just about everything I tasted.
