Return visit: Mandarin Oriental in Mullica Hill, New Jersey

It’s been a while since I’ve checked in with Mandarin Oriental, the Japanese/Chinese restaurant in the Shop Rite shopping plaza in Mullica Hill. I know previously I’d found their food decent, if not exceptional, perhaps lacking a little bit in finesse as far as their sushi was concerned (although I always found the hot entrees and appetizers very tasty). So the sweetie and I decided to return the other week to give them another go. I was getting ready to head out on a long road trip and prepping dinner on top of all my other pre-trip chores just wasn’t in the cards. I’m glad we did as we enjoyed a very good meal.

5 Days in Lansing, Michigan: Quick Bites and a Return Visit

Over this past Memorial Day weekend, I went on my annual “pilgrimage” to MediaWest*Con in Lansing, Michigan. I’ve been attending (and dealing) at MWC for over 15 years now – scary to realize, and only have missed perhaps two years during that time. But it’s only in the past few years I’ve been at the con with my own wheels instead of flying in, so I can drive around and eat away from the convention hotel and walkable restaurants.

First impressions: Kidari Sushi Yatai in Philadelphia

I was thrilled to recently learn that my old “Graduate Hospital” neighborhood in Philly was finally getting a sushi restaurant! I am still in the area frequently, including last week when I had the chance to enjoy two really delicious lunches at Kidari Sushi Yatai. It’s just about everything I could hope for and I predict I will soon be eating my way through most of the entire menu.

Review: Fuji Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar in Middetown, New York

It’s been many years since I’ve been to the Galleria at Crystal Run in Middletown, New York – and much longer since I’ve eaten anywhere in the vicinity beyond one of the large national chains that dominate the area. So it was with both excitement and some trepidation that a dining companion and I recently stumbled upon Fuji Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar at the Galleria while doing some post-Christmas sale shopping. Hunger won out over any wariness we might have about eating sushi in the area, so we decided to give it a try. By the end of the meal we were quite happy we had, as it ended up being a very nice lunch experience overall.

Good first impression at Machi Sushi!

Spider Roll at Machi Sushi

Last summer I reported on my dismal experience at Yamaki Sushi in Philadelphia, on 20th Street off Rittenhouse Square. So I wasn’t suprised earlier this year when I saw they were “closed for a re-opening in February.” What I wasn’t sure of was whether the sushi bar was just getting a facelift, or whether new operators/owners were involved in making for a better sushi experience.
