Italy 2014 Day 6: Ristorante O’ Chiaiese (Naples)

For our first full day in Naples, we decided to spend our time mostly walking about and discovering the churches and other attractions of the historic center of the city. We started with early morning cappuccino at one of the many cafes along our walk: Bar Fiorillo, which served more perfect Neapolitan espresso drinks and humongous sweet cornetti. The older gentleman running the register was very kind and patient with our poor Italian—another one of those tastes of Naples’ wonderful hospitality which we would encounter throughout our stay.

Italy 2014 Day 5: Pizzeria Vesi (Naples)

January 6. We slept in late, as our train to Naples did not leave until close to 1pm. We also slept in because the sweetie had been up most of the night, trying to follow the Eagles/Saints playoff game on our failing wifi connection (and the less said about that game the better.)

Italy 2014 Day 4: Da Bucatino (Rome)

January 5: this was to be our last full day in Rome. The weather did not seem like it was going to cooperate so we figured this would be another good day to devote to palazzos and other indoor spaces we had not visited before. First stop? Italy 2014 Day 3: Pizzeria Bibo and Trattoria “Da Oio” A Casa Mia (Rome)

Day three and we actually did have to get up early today: we had 9am entry tickets for the Galleria Borghese. For those who don’t know, this art and sculpture collection features stunning works by Caravaggio, Titian, Raphael, and Bernini—just to name a few. You are also only allowed 2 hours entry before being kicked out and advance reservations are a must. So while we’d visited before on our 2009 trip to Rome, it was definitely worth going back for a second time to spend more time with these magnificent works of art.

Italy 2014 Day 2: Il Giardino Romano (Rome)

I set our alarm for 6:30am, thinking we had 9am tickets for the Borghese Gallery. Ooops. I had, in fact, figured we’d be too tired on our first full day in Rome for an early morning museum visit, so those tickets were in fact for the next day (Saturday), not today (Friday). We had nothing definitively scheduled until 1pm when I had reserved entry tickets to the Vatican Museum.
