Back to the “Bull on the Barn” Bayshore Crab House in Newport, NJ

Two summers ago, the sweetie and I checked out the Bay Shore Crab House (known at the time as the “Bull on the Barn” because of its easy-to-spot outdoor mural) for the first time. (Here’s my review of that visit.) We enjoyed a tasty, if early season, selection of Jersey crabs and swore we would return again soon.

Return visit: Mandarin Oriental in Mullica Hill, New Jersey

It’s been a while since I’ve checked in with Mandarin Oriental, the Japanese/Chinese restaurant in the Shop Rite shopping plaza in Mullica Hill. I know previously I’d found their food decent, if not exceptional, perhaps lacking a little bit in finesse as far as their sushi was concerned (although I always found the hot entrees and appetizers very tasty). So the sweetie and I decided to return the other week to give them another go. I was getting ready to head out on a long road trip and prepping dinner on top of all my other pre-trip chores just wasn’t in the cards. I’m glad we did as we enjoyed a very good meal.

That first date took place at Vietnam Palace in Philadelphia, which (as it had turned out in our earlier art class discussions) was a place we both considered one of our favorites in the city. I guess it was a good sign for our future together that we both loved this same odd little restaurant in Chinatown and enjoyed Vietnamese food along with many other cuisines. So yes, we are still together today, and it seemed as though we really should mark the occasion with another Vietnamese dinner.

First taste: Naples of Mullica Hill

Earlier this year,  Mullica Hill favorite Naples Pizza moved from its longtime location at The Old Mill Antique Mall across the street to the Warehouse, a former sweet potato warehouse now converted into restaurant and shopping space. I had never actually been to Naples (the restaurant) before, despite now living in the immediate vacinity for four years. With the recent closing of Toscana in Mullica Hill, the sweetie was curious to give Naples a try to see if it would be a suitable “replacement” for satisfying that occasional Italian-American food craving. And I have to say after one visit there with the sweetie and his father R, I was really pleasantly surprised by how good it was.
