About the Author
The "South Jersey Foodie" is Nicole Pellegrini, sometimes known as sockii. She enjoys life as a writer, artist, webmaster, crafter and avid food-lover living in some of the last vestiges of active farmland in Gloucester County, New Jersey. She shares her home with her partner David, a podiatrist in Woodbury NJ and their six cats: Peanut, Norman, Sammo, Mischief, George and Benny.
I believe in enjoying life - and that includes enjoying as many different kinds and styles of food as possible. I am an omnivore with a personal passion for small, sustainable, ethical farming and natural foods. I have little patience for the "Food Police" or those who advocate that one dietary plan is the only "right" one for everyone. Find your personal balance and conscience; make food a joy in your life - that's my motto.

Okay, okay, I know. Outback Steakhouse is a “casual dining” chain and I really shouldn’t expect much from them based on that. I’m not going in to one of their locations expecting foodie-quality dining and a high-end restaurant experience.
Over this past Memorial Day weekend, I went on my annual “pilgrimage” to MediaWest*Con in Lansing, Michigan. I’ve been attending (and dealing) at MWC for over 15 years now – scary to realize, and only have missed perhaps two years during that time. But it’s only in the past few years I’ve been at the con with my own wheels instead of flying in, so I can drive around and eat away from the convention hotel and walkable restaurants.
Recently I enjoyed a three-day stay in New York City for a conference and then a little relaxation and “playing tourist”. It was a nice getaway for the sweetie and I, and as it happened we ended up dining Italian three times, at three quite different restaurants around the city. Each meal was enjoyable with its own unique pluses – and a few minuses here and there.
We spent the bulk of two days at the Ringling Estate in Sarasota, exploring not just their impressive art museum and attending a conference on Paolo Veronese but else enjoying the lush estate grounds, touring the Ca’ d’Zan Mansion and the Circus Museums (because yes, the Ringling in the museum name is THAT Ringling, from the Ringling Brothers Circus.)
