This past week the sweetie and I had the chance to dine at Tavro 13 again, which I had enjoyed tremendously on our first visit there just a few weeks back. Once again everything was outstanding and it was wonderful to be able to try some more dishes on the menu, especially as we had a guest with us as well so we could really sample a lot of things.
I started the night with a marvelous Old Fashioned from the bar. Bourbon is my favorite spirit and the bartender at Tavro 13 certainly knows how to treat it well. For wine for the table, we made a great selection with the Pieropan Soave La Rocca. This white went very nicely with the variety of dishes we ordered from fish to chicken to pork.
As a starter I had the Baby Artichokes, which were delightfully light and tart in a lemon aoili with thinly shredded vegetables. I only had small tastes of my companions’ starters but they were both quite tasty – the very hearty-portioned Cavatelli with Broccoli and a scallop dish which I am very tempted to order the next time in order to better sample.
For my main course I chose the Black Sea Bass served with Walnut Romesco, Roasted Peppers, Ovendried Tomato and Braised Fennel. I really liked this dish – as usual Chef Feury showed his masterful hand with seafood as the bass was perfectly cooked, and the walnut romesco added a very different and tasty note to it. I adore fennel and could have easily enjoyed a few more slices of this wonderful presentation. The star of the night, however, was the Berkshire Pork Roast which is a new addition to the menu. If you’ve never had Berkshire Pork before, do get to Tavro 13 and try this dish as soon as possible! The roast was incredibly juicy and had a wonderful smoky flavor to it…I was stealing quite a few bites off my sweetie’s plate. (If you want a really hearty portion for dinner, this is definitely the dish to order.) Our guest also had a new dish, a roast chicken which again I only tasted a small portion of but it was very good. Light and dark meat are layered together in a unique terrine for a different twist on the dish.
For dessert, we shared the outstanding molten chocolate cake again, and the Rosemary Panna Cotta with Pistachios which I especially adored. I liked the contrast of sweet and salty, herbal and fruity flavors…a wonderfully light finish to the meal.
All told it was another excellent meal, start to finish. I’m so thrilled to have a restaurant of this quality near home at last! I’m sure we’ll be taking many more friends and family here in the future so that they too can get a taste, and I really hope that more folks in the area will give them a chance. Tavro 13 absolutely deserves it.
