I swear, I think if I hear of yet another “small plates” restaurant opening I’m gonna scream.
Is anyone else getting fed up with the “small plates” trend? It does have its pros, some of which I discussed in my article Small Plates Dining: The Pros and Cons, but I honestly think more often than not it ends up being a rip-off. It’s fine for when you really do just want a light nibble at the bar or a late night snack. But the idea of making an entire meal out of small plates just seems designed to lead to diner confusion and large restaurant tabs.
What do you think? Are you a fan of small plates or do you miss the days of going to a restaurant and simply ordering an appetizer, entree and dessert?
